Terms of Service

Last updated 2 October 2026

These terms cover your use of Splitly, an app for keeping track of shared expenses and who owes whom. By creating an account or using Splitly, you agree to them.

1. What Splitly is, and isn't

Splitly is a record-keeping tool. It helps you write down shared expenses, split them, and see the balances that result.

  • Splitly never moves money. When you “settle up”, you are recording a payment you made somewhere else, such as in cash or by bank transfer. Splitly does not process, hold or send any funds.
  • Splitly is not a bank, payment service, lender or debt collector. A balance in Splitly is a record kept by you and the people you share it with, not a legal claim enforced by us.
  • Splitly does not convert currencies. Balances in different currencies are shown separately.

2. Your account

  • You need a valid email address to sign up and a phone number you can verify by one-time code.
  • Keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens under your account, and you should tell us straight away if you think someone else has used it.
  • Give your real name, or a name the people you split with will recognise, and keep your email and phone number current.
  • You must be old enough to agree to these terms where you live.

3. Adding other people

You can add someone by email or phone number before they have an account. When you do, you confirm that you know them and have a genuine reason to share expenses with them.

  • If you add someone by email, Splitly sends them one invitation email. If you add them by phone number, Splitly sends nothing, and it is up to you to share the invite link.
  • When that person signs up and verifies the same email or phone number, the expenses recorded with them become part of their account.
  • Don't use Splitly to contact, harass or track people who don't want to hear from you.

4. What you record

  • You are responsible for the expenses, payments, notes and receipts you add. Record them accurately and in good faith.
  • Everything you record is visible to the other people in that group or 1:1 balance, including edits, deletions and their history.
  • Splitly calculates balances from what has been recorded. We work hard to get the maths exactly right, but the result is only as accurate as what was entered. Check anything that matters before acting on it.
  • Payments can't be edited once recorded. To correct one, delete it and record it again. Deleted expenses stay visible in history, so everyone can see what changed.
  • You keep ownership of what you upload. You let us store it, process it and show it to the people you've shared it with, only so we can run Splitly.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use Splitly for anything unlawful, fraudulent or deceptive, including recording fake debts;
  • upload content that is illegal or abusive, or that infringes someone else's rights;
  • try to find people in bulk, guess phone numbers or email addresses, or get around rate limits and blocks;
  • interfere with, probe or overload Splitly, or access it other than through the app.

You can block anyone. Once you block someone, they can no longer add you to new expenses, groups or payments.

6. Leaving and deleting your account

  • You can leave a group, and export your data, at any time from the app.
  • You can delete your account from Account once every balance you have is settled. Deleting removes your name, email, phone number, photo and the receipts you uploaded, and signs you out everywhere.
  • The expenses and payments themselves stay, shown as “Deleted user”, because they are part of other people's records too.
  • We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts other people at risk. Where it is reasonable, we will tell you first.

7. Availability and changes

We try to keep Splitly running and your records safe, but we provide it “as is” and can't promise it will always be available or error-free. You need a connection to save changes; Splitly will not save anything while you are offline.

We may change Splitly or these terms. If a change matters, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using Splitly after that, you accept the new terms.

8. Liability

To the extent the law allows, Splitly is not liable for indirect or consequential losses. We are also not liable for disagreements between you and the people you split with, or for decisions made on the basis of a balance. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have that the law does not allow to be excluded.

9. Privacy

How we handle your personal information is described in the Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.
